Shan attended the TecHome Builder Summit last December and discovered that the robotic Husqvarna Automower® makes the perfect lawn possible without lifting a finger.  One might liken the automower® concept to a Roomba for the yard.  

How it Works

The Husqvarna Automower® consists of three main parts: the mower, charging station and boundary wire.

This smart home technology begins by installing the boundary wire a couple inches underground.  This establishes an electric fence for the automower®, created by a loop signal sent from the charging station through the boundary wire.  When automower® nears the wire, it detects the signal and promptly stops, then continues in a different direction.

Because the Husqvarna Automower® is fully automatic, it returns itself to the charging station when batteries start to run low.  Once the battery is charged, it gets back to work without any kind of intervention.

Husqvarna Automower® works in a free movement pattern, programmable for either day or night, and typically covers all areas of a lawn in two days.  After the initial mowing, the cutting height is lowered and the automower® continues to work, constantly clipping tiny amounts of grass as it goes. The miniscule clippings are left on the lawn to serve as natural fertilizer for the soil.  This gentle process deters moss and results in a healthy, well-manicured lawn.
