Winsome Customer Spotlight: Custom Retirement Home for McMinnville Couple – Winsome Construction
Moxie is one cool cat. A rescue from the Oregon Humane Society, he lives with his owners, Tony and Pamela Petrotta, in a Winsome built home in McMinnville’s gated Forest Glen Community. Everyone who encounters Moxie knows that this unique and spunky cat is an important part of the Petrotta family.
This quickly became apparent to Kevin Wiebold, Winsome’s Site Superintendent who managed the Petrotta’s two level, 3,024 square foot project. Kevin made a suggestion for a custom, litter box hideaway cabinet that has become one of the Petrotta’s prized features of their new home. Pamela describes the creative addition, “This bench is complete with several overhanging hooks for jackets, looks very attractive, and completely hides the litter box. Winsome had many other great suggestions which we incorporated into our home, as well.”
One of those additional recommendations was based on the Petrotta’s top goal for their project, which was to maximize the natural, forested view of Cozine Creek available from their lot. Winsome proposed the addition of a wrapped deck to connect the covered porch and dining patio, which resulted in 574 square feet of continuous outdoor living space. From frequent sightings of deer and squirrels to bird watching with Moxie and sharing meals under the vaulted porch, the Petrottas spend ample time enjoying this beautiful space. Pamela said it best when she concluded, “I just love this deck! I feel like I’m on vacation when I sit out here.”
Tony and Pamela had other goals for their new retirement home as well. Tony, an Episcopal priest, teacher and author, desired a study for his work and ample book storage, and Pamela, a retired legal assistant and current piano teacher, wanted to accommodate her Baldwin grand piano and have space for teaching students. Tony shared, “For our needs, it made sense to build.” As first time home builders, however, their journey came with many questions. The Petrottas expressed their gratitude for the ease of going into the Winsome office, the prompt responsiveness to their questions and the top quality of Winsome’s craftsmanship. They concluded, “We are very happy. This turned out to be a really sweet home.”
