Weathering the Storm with ICFs

August 7, 2010

Because ICFs form solid concrete walls, the planning process is naturally more involved than that of a stick-built house. There is less room for error or improvisation. ‘You need extra planning, especially when it comes to the windows and the electrical and plumbing penetrations,’ says Shan Stassens, owner of Winsome Homes. Despite this extra planning, there are no real restrictions in terms of house design or layout. ICFs can achieve all of the same architectural looks and floor plans as stick built homes. In some cases, ICFs make certain architectural features easier. Some of these features are curved walls, towers, and overhangs.
